Steve Grieve

Steve is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected guitar players with over twenty five years of professional experience at the highest level in the music industry. Steve is also a thorough, methodical and inspiring teacher with the expertise to take your playing to the next level, whatever that is for you.

Steve maintains an active professional and playing life as well as tutoring both guitar and ensemble at Sydney Grammar School (since 1999), at The Music Practice Surry Hills (since 2002) and most recently at The King’s School in Parramatta. Previously Steve was also on the faculty of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University where he taught both guitar and ensemble under the tutelage of Australian Jazz great, guitarist and composer Jim Kelly. Steve has private teaching studios in both Sydney and in Wentworth Falls.

Artists Steve has played, toured and recorded with over the last twenty years include Christine Anu (2006-2012), Margaret Urlich (1999-2008), Wendy Matthews (2014), Grace Knight, Jimmy Witherspoon (USA), Bob Malone (USA), Elvin Bishop (USA), Norton Buffalo (USA), Brian Cadd, Little Pattie, Mitchell Anderson, Jo Jo Smith, Jim Kelly, Kirk Lorange, Andrew Oh, Sarah McGregor, Shauna Jensen, and his own band Steve Grieve and The Mourners (new CD release ‘Caterpillar Maze’ 2015).

Steve has performed on Mornings With Kerrie Ann (Channel 9 Sydney), The Morning Show (Channel 7 Sydney), The People Speak with Christine Anu and Jack Thompson (Foxtel), The Living Room with Amanda Keller (Channel 10), Outside Live Broadcast Australia Day (2GB), ABC Jazz Track (ABC Classic FM), corporate functions, music venues and festivals all over Australia including Sydney, Uluru, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Darwin, Melbourne, Canberra, The East Coast Blues and Roots Festival Byron Bay, Broadbeach Blues Festival, Canberra Folk Festival, Bellingen Jazz Festival, Narooma Blues Festival, Thredbo Blues Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Ipswich Blues Festival, Ten Days On The Island Festival Tasmania, Brisbane Jazz Festival, Great Southern Blues and Rockabilly Festival, Yabun Festival and Too Solid Festival (Perth), Mandurah Channel 7 Crab Fest (WA).

In 2004 Steve published an instructional book and CD “Getting Into Blues Guitar” with international music publisher Mel Bay Publications USA, distributed worldwide and translated into French in 2008.

Steve specialises in all forms of contemporary music – blues, rock, jazz, funk, popular, electric, acoustic, finger style and teaches improvisation, all aspects of harmony, technique and musicianship, ear training, reading, theory, composition and arranging. Private lessons and/or group classes with Steve (Blues Guitar class and Jazz Ensemble) can be arranged by appointment at his teaching studios in either Sydney or in Wentworth Falls.
