Classical Guitar Lessons
Sally Hillier is a classical guitarist with many years’ experience of teaching and performing in Australia and internationally.
After gaining her B. Mus. (Performance) at Sydney Conservatorium in 1986, Sally travelled to the UK and Spain where she undertook further studies with Gilbert Biberian, John Mills and Leo Brouwer.
Sally has been teaching guitar for around 40 years, both privately and in a wide range of schools and colleges. As well as individual tuition she has lead guitar ensembles and been involved in school performances. She has taught broader music based programs in the classroom and acted as mentor to primary school classroom teachers wishing to extend their music teaching skills.
Sally has given many solo recitals covering a wide range of guitar repertoire in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and the UK. She has recorded as soloist and in duo for ABC and 2MBS radio, and has performed regularly with various ensembles including the contemporary music group The PM Ensemble; The Umbrella Collection, a Cardiff-based organisation dedicated to the generation and performance of new music, and as accompanist with the early music ensemble La Musica.
From 1998-2006 she was registered as National Advisor to the Arts Council of Wales in the area of Chamber Music.
TUITION
Students of all ages and playing experience are welcome and lessons are planned accordingly. You can learn solely for the pleasure of playing or find new challenges and develop your technique by working through the grades.
Lesson times vary depending on the student’s needs, usually starting with a half hour weekly lesson and increasing the time as needed.
I have a current Working with Children Check
