I am a guitarist with 6+ years of experience playing music semi-professionally in live bands, having played with performers like Stu Cook from Clearance Clearwater Revival, Carlos Sosa from Jason Mraz’s band, and Brion James from Dan Reed Network. The guitar was the only instrument in my sights when I was eight years old and my parents first asked me to pick an instrument. Ever since I bought my little classical guitar, there’s been no looking back! My favorite thing about teaching is watching students realize how much potential they have once getting past the self-doubt we all tend to feel when first approaching instruments, foreign languages, sport, or any tricky skill. I prefer a less strictly technical approach to teaching guitar, letting students set real musical goals (‘I want to play Back in Black, by ACDC!’), and then building toward those goals with them in fun, rewarding ways. In lessons, we will move quickly through beginner and intermediate stages before graduating to advanced, learning chord progressions, strumming patterns, scales, soloing, and basic theory, all the way through altered chords, arpeggios, diminished scales, advanced licks, ‘playing out’ with chromatics, and much more.
