Spanish/Classical/General Guitar Lessons

For most students I reccomend studying classical guitar technique and reading music as the best foundation to all styles of guitar. I reccomend this to beginners or people wishing to improve their general musicality and understanding of the instrument.

If students have pre-existing knowledge in guitar, it is possible after a consultation to commence studies in Flamenco guitar. I prefer to have a consultation with students first because flamenco is an advanced discipline with a very specific vocabulary of techniques, harmonic language, rhythms and song structures.

I am a professional guitarist with over 20 years experience playing. I have been teaching guitar and general music classes in government schools, community colleges and private studios for the last 9 years.

My specialty is Flamenco Guitar and I also studied Spanish Classical and Latin American guitar repertoire at a tertiary level at the University of Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I currently work as an accompanist for a leading Flamenco dance company in Sydney.

As an aside from this, I am well versed in many other genres of music. I have been an active member of several rock bands and have experience playing in orchestras, stage bands and for commercial recording sessions.

I believe note reading, literacy in music theory and aural skills training are fundamental to forming complete musicians with a diverse skill set. As such, I employ a variety of pedagogies that encourage reading music notation, analysis of repertoire studied and working by ear.

I also believe teaching students what they wish to learn but also supplementing this with exercises and repertoire that address technique and musicianship more broadly.

NOTE: My work schedule means I spend time in both the the north-western suburbs (Carlingford/West Pennant Hills) and inner-west suburbs. Lessons are possible in either region.
