Guitar Lessons

I am a graduate from the Australian National University School of Music. I’ve been teaching since 2008 and have experience performing and composing as well.

In 2013 I was a finalist in the Betty Carter Jazz Competition in the U.S and had the opportunity to teach a masterclass at Daegu University in South Korea as well as work as an assistant ensemble teacher.

For myself it is very important that I do not primarily using TABS (Numbers instead of music) as I feel that Music students should learn how to read music. I do have certain things that I look at during lessons which I feel help to fasten and strengthen the progress of students:

-Composing, I feel it’s important that students are able to write there own music should they wish to.

-Improvising, guitar soloing is a natural part of the guitar music education process.

-Aural skills, training the ear is very important as music is about sound. We use our ears so naturally it would be important to work on them.

-Jamming, of course jamming is a very important part of learning music. Once you become comfortable with a song we’ll jam on it and you can solo or sing! Whatever you wish.

I will teach you to become independent on the guitar, I will work with you to and listen your needs to develop an approach unique to you whilst still applying these very necessary concepts to the lessons.

I have a WWC and having been teaching children and adults of all ages/ backgrounds.

I teach from beginners to advance students and I charge $30 for half an hour, $50 for 1 hour. Below are my qualifications and experience in Music Education and Performance.

I do not primarily teach in TAB as I do believe it is important for music students to know how to read music. I teach from my home in Swansea and will provide extra materials to supplement lessons, you may be required to purchase a Guitar Method Book should that be required.

I am confident in the styles of Jazz, Pop, Blues, Reggae, Rock, Free Improvisation. I can teach beginner Classical but after a certain point it would be best to seek a Expert Classical Guitarist.
