Classical Guitar Lessons
Bachelor of Classical Performance
I have been teaching classical and modern guitar in schools and privately for the past five years. Now based in Perth after returning from 12 months of teaching in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and 5 months privately in Brisbane, I am thrilled to be offering lessons to all ages and levels of experience.
I have taught one-on-one and group classes in a school and home environment, guiding children and mature-aged students in how to read music and perform for their own enjoyment or in the company of others.
Inspiring students to find joy in playing classical guitar and continuing to improve their instrumental capabilities is at the core of my teaching method.
My students will learn:
- Proper left and right hand placement – Correct performance posture and technique – How to read music and notation – A well-developed tone and tonal colours – To play in a way that fluent, expressive and graceful
I have previously taught classical, folk and electric guitar to private-school students in Perth, Western Australia, as well as tutoring after-school and privately to mature-aged students.
In a letter of recommendation from Mater Dei College, a Catholic co-educational secondary school in Perth, the head of the school’s music department said: “Chris relates easily and well to his students, and takes a real interest in their well-being. His relaxed studio manner often meant that pupils would learn without realising that learning was taking place. Chris has a passion for classical guitar in particular and guitar playing in general, and is able to pass this on to his students, as well as vital information regarding appropriate technique.”
Earlier this year I returned from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where I spent 12-months teaching classical guitar to local and international students at some of the country’s top-tier private schools. I have also recently returned from Brisbane where I had been teaching privately for five months, working on compositions for string quartet, piano and many other instruments.
